The Florida Department of Revenue has provided an updated list of local discretionary sales surtax rates for the 2017 calendar year. For 2017, the following counties have changes to their surtax rates:
County | Surtax rate change | Explanation |
Alachua County | 0.5% | Includes a new 0.5% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2024. |
Bay County | 1% | Includes a new 0.5% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2026. The current 0.5% school surtax remains in effect and expires December 31, 2020. |
Brevard County | 1% | Includes a new 0.5% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2026. The current 0.5% school surtax remains in effect and expires December 31, 2020 |
Clay County | 1% | The 1% infrastructure surtax, that was scheduled to expire December 31, 2019, is extended and will expire December 31, 2039. |
Highlands County | 1.5% | Includes a new 0.5% school surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2036. The current 1% infrastructure surtax remains in effect and expires December 31, 2033. |
Indian River County | 1% | The current 1% infrastructure surtax, scheduled to expire December 31, 2019, is extended and will expire December 31, 2034. |
Liberty County | 2% | Includes a new 0.5% emergency fire rescue services surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2021. The current 1% small county surtax remains in effect until repealed; and the current 0.5% school surtax remains in effect and expires December 31, 2020. |
Manatee County | 1% | Includes a new 0.5% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2031. The current 0.5% school surtax, scheduled to expire December 31, 2017, is extended and will expire December 31, 2032. |
Marion County | 1% | Includes a new 1% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2020. |
Osceola County | 1.5% | Includes a new 0.5% school surtax begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2036. The current 1% infrastructure surtax remains in effect and expires August 31, 2025. |
Palm Beach County | 1% | Includes a new 1% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2026. |
Polk County | 1% | The current 0.5% indigent care surtax, scheduled to expire December 31, 2019, is extended and will expire December 31, 2044. The current 0.5% school surtax remains in effect and expires December 31, 2018. |
Santa Rosa County | 1% | Includes a new 0.5% infrastructure surtax that begins January 1, 2017 and expires December 31, 2021. The current 0.5% school surtax remains in effect and expires December 31, 2018. |
Wakulla County | 1% | The current 1% infrastructure surtax, scheduled to expire December 31, 2017, is extended and will expire December 31, 2037. |
